VPS
Hey guys, today Im gonna tell you how we set up a VPS.

Q: What kind of VPS is this for?
A: This is only for windows VPS', not for Linux.

Where are we gonna go trough?

- Buying a VPS.
- Connecting to VPS.

Q: What's the difference between a 2003 plan and a 2008 plan?
A: A 2008 plan has more disk space, and it's a newer version of Windows.

Q: What's the difference between a expensive and a cheap VPS?
A: The more RAM, disk space and bandwidth it has, the more expensive it is. Sometimes it has more dedicated ip adresses. In a few words: It just has more.

Well after you clicked a "order" button, fill in everything you can, you might get a little bit different screen.
Q: Why do I need to fill in everything?
A: When there is a problem with your VPS or it doesn't get deliverd.

Far to much work for just connecting to the VPS. On Linux you can just type

rdesktop -u username -p password ip
inside a terminal. Obviously replacing the username, password and ip with the correct values.

I preffer windows for RSPS. And Linux is a bit difficult for some people.

I laughed when you said VPSland.com delivers within 24 hours. Took them 4 days to set-up and deliver mine. Might want to fix that, they take FOREVER.

One question, I bought a VPS about a year ago and used it for a few months, then stopped paying for it. If I payed for it again, would i automatically have that same VPS or would I have to wait for them to set me up a new one?

Hey could you do a tut on how to get a 517 on to the windows 2008 server please.

The Black Tux
July 6th, 2010, 17:41
It would be cheaper to get a Linux one though, and it would be faster, as Linux uses less resources.

After you have any OS, you install JDK, and get the server source to the server, then run it

July 6th, 2010, 19:11
I know about all that I was just wondering how to get the source on it.

windows is horrible for running a server on. linux is way better, but if you dont know what you are doing get windows.

Btw: i suggest buying the bladeserver (name of computer vps's are hosted on) instead of renting its cheaper in the long run (no monthly payments) and you have 100% control over it.

i just bought one about a week ago its amazing!

will this work for vista?

you mean putting vista on your vps? thats a horrible idea you guys would be much happier using ubuntu or linux.

linux benifits
0% chance of getting a viruse
only uses 4gb of hd space for the OS
215mb or ram to run the OS
way more stable then windows
more organized then windows
100% open source so you can edit the OS how ever you want

Benifits of windows
Uses frames (which you can get on linux)
More user friendly

if your going to go with linux you should know some python and about how the OS (operating system) works.

Also, mentioning the %systemroot%/system32/ evaluations is a waste of time as Windows NEVER ignores system32 in the PATH environment variable
