No, im not trolling.

I have been seeing on the news that they might pass a law that children under 18 will not be able to purchase/play rated M video games. What are you guys's opinion on this?

I am 16 and I say piss off, don't touch my Halo Reach.

They won't be able to enforce this; I highly doubt the game company's will comply.

Your aren't even allowed to buy rated M games unless you are 17+, so i guess its not a really big change.

Who's going to listen?IF it does get passed, everyone will just "secretly" play in their basements, soon enough forgetting about the law and wonder why they had their console in the basement for the past 3 months and put it back where it was.

Only the registered members can see the link. (Only the registered members can see the link.) this won't get passed. :troll:

^that lol.

Are you telling me that the feds are going to come monitor what game activity lawlll..?

Friss
October 4th, 2010, 22:59
Last time I checked this law was only in California.

Its more a thing to stop 12 year old kids getting their parents to buy games like MW2/Halo etc without them REALLY knowing what is in the game. Ya the guy at the counter asks if it is ok for your child to get this because they are under 18 but its not like they would really pay much attention to that.

In the end it hurts the 15-17 crowd that can play these games without going crazy or being scared for life.

October 4th, 2010, 23:22
... this won't affect anything people parents will still buy them the game so you will still be able to play. its a free country so they can't come into your house and say "16yr old playing halo reach ur on probation from playing video games"

Sir Lethal
October 4th, 2010, 23:35
I doubt it, as long as your parents agree you can play the games you'll be able to buy them lol

CIA GOING TO BE WATCHING ME PLAY GTA 4?
How would they stop teenagers from playing these games exactly?

Daedalus
October 9th, 2010, 10:59
This applies to online games; I don't care about non-multiplayer games.

I'm not in the US, but in a way I hope this happens, to teach those who are immature to play a game (Like those who rant at you for kicking their ass) a lesson, but in another way I hope this doesn't happen, because there are tons out there that are mature to play those type of games.

This has been around for like a year now, California was the first to bring it up because they did a study and for them most children who play rated M games will be more likly to kill someone without thinking of it, ofcourse this is not true because it depends on the childs enviroment and how that person was or is being raised, this will not pass.

BTW last May or June on MSN AOL and Yahoo they had a thing about in there main page, my teacher printed it out and let me read it, im sure if you look you can find it.

But if it does go through, it wont matter if your parent buys it for you. if you are caught playing it your parents could get fined and have to pay, also Xbox Live and PSN would block accounts under 18 in even playing them. So your parents wouldnt be able to help you.

Isn't hard to get around this at ALL.
You can't buy games for mature audiences unless you're 18+ anyways.
How do you think kids did it before? "MOMMY, MOMMY, CAN YOU PWEASE BUY ME ZE NOO GRAND THEFT AUTO FO?!"

Then explain to me what I'm missing, other than them passing a law that we can't buy games, even though there's already a law exactly like it?
And they can't control what we play, it'd be against the constitution. We legally bought the game, so we can legally play it.

Incorrect you didn't legally buy the game considering it says 18+ It's the same as trying to buy porn before you are 18.. Derp.

Rated M is currently for 17+. I don't think they're going to go into every single house and check if the people playing are all under 18. I don't think it will make much of a difference.
If you remember, at one time, RuneScape was for users of the age 13+, and that didn't stop all of the fourth graders in my elementary school from playing it LOL (no, I'm no longer in Elementary school... lol...).

PS: If someone already said this, wtvr. I felt too lazy to go through and read 5 pages of comments lol.
