Hey guys I was just wondering you thoughts if America is Losing its Competitive Edge?
I think that we are losing it, for example, we let kids drop out of schools at 16, but in country's like England they arn't aloud to leave school till 18 the legal age, and they go to college for free. =/

I think quitting school at 16 is pretty stupid.

... Letting kids leave school is a horrible example of us loosing our competitive edge.
Oh and FYI there are less dropouts now, then ever. So if anything we are gaining an edge.

Just because college is free doesn't mean it's better?

We don't have to stay into school till we are 18. High school in England finishes at age 16 then you go to College. We go to college for free because we pay taxes, just like we get free healthcare because we have taxes on near enough everything.

Its a great example because they have no job opportunities, like my brother just applied for McDonalds and another guy that was 19 and a highschool drop out applyed and my brother got the job, and the manager said that it was because he was a drop out...
Just because college is free doesn't mean it's better?
Well plenty of people in america can't go because they don't have enough money or they just don't want to.... the option of free gives them a choice.

Sorry about the age mistake

It should be noted that UK university fees are partially funded by the government and some people can get grants.

I don't really see how kids quitting school at 16 makes us lose our "competitive" edge.

Not necessarily, kids that are 5-6 are the next generation. You saying kids who quit school are stupid is honestly ignorant, you might think that everyone needs college, but if everyone goes to college, who's going to build the houses, who's going to install your carpet, who's going to give you that delicious Bic Mac at Mcdonalds. There's a place for everyone, so let the kids quit school, and let the ones dedicated to going to college, go to college.

I'm just saying whats good for them.
If more people go to college, there will be more than just a few brilliant minds at work, in which maybe just maybe, they can build a robot to install your carpet, build houses, and even give you a big mac.

But you see, not everyone is fit for college. Some people would like to do other things that don't require college.

Nice.. You do realize that what you just said means that robots will take over most of human jobs. That would put like 98% of the population into unemployment.
I dropped out when I was 18 not because I couldn't pass, but because it was a waste of my time. Instead of finishing high school and going to a college or university for 4 years. I have made more money than I would have spent for my whole college or university tuition plus any money I would have working part time somewhere while going to college or university. I would still have 2 years left at college also.

Imagine if you did finish your college, lets say you become a Surgeon. Now compare how much money you'd make, you'd be able to easily pay off your college loans. etc.
Without college and a degree theres a 95% chance you won't get a good paying job, and by good paying i'm not saying 13 dollars p/hour. I'm talking real cash.

Did you not read everything I said? I said in 2 years I have made more money than it would have cost me to go to college or university, buy everything I needed for it, plus any money I would have been making while going to college, and how much it would have cost me for rooming.
I'm talking real cash. Why would I want to be a Surgeon? That takes a lot longer then 4 years by the way. Around 8 I think.

Eh, that was a stupid comment. My dad finished highschool and didn't go to college, and he bought a $250,000 house when he was only 20. He worked his ass off and didn't need college, he makes more than any of my teachers, and principles, who did go to college to make "real cash".
