Problems Hosting

Alright i need any experienced hoster or such with Teamviewer to help me,or thouroughly explain here(rather you use teamviewer) ive hosted a server before,on windows xp.. it worked perfectly fine,but a friend had set it up for me. Have you portforwarded correctly? yea idk if i did or not,its very confusing for me.... idk even know if i have a router... i got ethernet internet,that hooks up to this box that runs internet phone and everything.. idk if thats router or not...
