As many Americans that are in the public school systems know, it is frowned upon to say "Merry Christmas" and anything related to Jesus Christ, Christianity, or religion in general. What do you think about it? Should we be allowed to say that, without being reprimanded?

There must be a bunch of sad people frowning everywhere all over my school because there is Merry Christmas everywhere. It honestly should not matter what is "Politically correct" it wont be harming any religions and shouldn't be offending anyones either. Every culture practices different things and Merry Christmas over the past 50 years or so has basically had an adverse meaning to basically wish someone a "Happy holidays." Why not say that? Basically its just personal preference its ones religion take it this way, for example many people of Muslim faith wear Turbans as a statement of obedience to god, that could be considered offensive to Christians or Jews. Its all how you put it in your own ways and I don't think that anyone should be getting offended or changing how they greet someone, its a greeting simple as, they're not trying to convert someone or put down somebody else by simply saying "Merry Christmas." Just take the gesture and smile and say thank you. End of.

May I ask where you heard,
"As many Americans that are in the public school systems know,"
Seeing as in all the public schools, they encourage it.

I wouldn't say all public schools necessarily ENCOURAGE it, but they certainly don't frown upon it. They are getting a lot more strict with religious gestures though, for example a football player recently scored a touchdown and did a motion to god and was penalized for it.

Well, I was speaking from the standpoint of my school. All teachers aren't allowed to say "Merry Christmas" or put up signs that say "Christmas", instead using "Holidays" or "Xmas". I think it's sad.

You should probably clarify what you mean a lot better or do more research before saying that then :p.

Well people don't really care when I say happy hannukah to other people, so I don't mind when people say Merry Christmas to me or around me. It's all in good holiday spirit!

I've seen similar things such as other Religions trying to 'ban' Christmas because it's not their belief. Pretty sad in my opinion, Nobody's forcing them to celebrate Christmas so really there's no need to get so butthurt over a Holiday that is Celebrated by Billions.

This reminds me of how they tried to teach us the nursary rhyme bar bar black sheep was changed to bar bar multi-coloured sheep just to be politically correct. Many things are taken out of context, the rhyme isn't racist. Sheep are white, a black sheep would be the odd one out, which is why the saying is the black sheep of the family, the odd one out.
What is worse is that for a country who's national religion is christianty you have to adjust your celebrations for a minority? It shouldn't work like that, things should be in favour for the majority.
Also, if someone says Merry Christmas I don't see how it is against any religion to greet someone back. Even if you find it wrong, just greet them back with another greeting. If someone says "Merry Christmas", you can say "you too" or "Happy holidays" instead.

Why change something now? Just leave it the same.

Its funny because here in Canada, me and my girlfriend were listening to the radio, and the guy said christmas tree then a song ended, and he came back on and had to apologize and call it another name, it was something bush. And he told us he was not allowed to say "Christmas" on the radio.
