Hi, im currently on BT unlimited, so theres no restrictions or caps. They offer up to 20 mb download speeds. On speedtest.net and other speed testers i get 2.35 megabits /s which is 2048 kb/s yet i only get 200 kb/s when im downloading a game. Speedtest said im below half of the ISP average for the uk.. Does my broadband seem reasonable or am i getting confused with the units?
Im paying £24 a month ($37 broadband?) which is still alot... :confused:

No you shouldn't get 2000KB/s unless you internet speed is 16Mbps.
8Mbps = 1MB/s
With a 2.35Mbps off speed test you should average around 225-275KB/s

2.35 megabits = 300.8 kilobytes
Just used google unit converter, but its still shocking considering its less than half of the ISP average :(.. BT only do 1 year contracts so i might be stuck :(

I get 200 kb/s at peak times although with my line i should get 300, considering customer support say i should get 8 mb and they advertise up to 20 for their "ultimate" package then its hardly worth my money :( ?

Sir ,its obvious that SpeedTest gives you the correct received connection ,but,you only get 200 kb/s because your infrastructure Internet Connection cannot receive up to 2.35 megabits/s According to your place ,it maybe cause of no wired frequency of the signal that yours Router or the Internet infrastructure Connection can't catch up the Whole broad packets ...Contact your service ..whatever its called your Internet community ..:P

What router do you have?
If you can post me your statistics (Line Attenuation and Noise Margin) I can give you an approximate speed as to what you should get.
If you PM me your post code I can see what packages you can get in your area too.

Connection speed != Download Speed
Mbps != MB/s
2.35Mbps != 300kb/s
I have 2Mbps connection and average about 160-200kb/s (peak), so you should not get 300kb/s at 2.35Mbps.

8Mb = 1MB.
300KB/s * 8 = 2400Mb/s
2400 is pretty close to 2350..

I have a 12Mbps package and max at around 1.5MBps which is spot on. Just wish that was all the time not just during non peak :< And that my upload wasn't .6-.7Mbps

For the US according to Speedtest you are faster than 58% of the US so you can decide on that.
Plus different areas have different providers with different packages with different prices with different amounts the people of that area can actually afford/want to pay for such packages.

10Mb/s pretty good.
I only get 4Mb/s :(
Annoyingly my friends on the other side of the river will be getting 110Mb/s Fibre...
That annoys me.. a lot.
