Not if your not taking directly used stuff from RuneScape.
You can't put a CopyRight on a idea.

No, if it is your own original code then its yours.

Why is this even in web development?

No but why would you want to copy someone else, make your own unique game, new skills things to do story lines ect.

Yes you can, otherwise nothing could be coprighted. If you patent A product/idea it stops other people stealing it. E.G. Runescape have patented skill capes, aswell as many other things.

Depending on where you live you can get a copyright on the execution of the idea. The idea itself? No.

I'm not fully incorrect, I know my correction wasn't 100% but it's along the lines of.

You cannot copyright the idea, mainly because anyone could have the idea and could argue they had it first or at the same time, however you can be protected over the execution of the idea since that is specific; specific details won't be 100% the same. If that specific execution of the idea is copied there is protection, while this is limited.
A patent is not the same as a copyright. An idea is a thought in process, a creation is something entirely different. You create the idea; then copyright it.

Claws, skillcapes are patented by Jagex.
Also slik, I do partially agree, but it is possible to patent an idea/concept. I suppose it's basically first come, first serve?

From what I gather the OP is discussing copyright infringement and not the protection of his idea.

I know, but he was saying that could he get in trouble for using Jagex material, which also ties in with patenting, if you use the patented product to sell on or whatever. then you could get into trouble, which also ties in with copright and everything else.

Without valid proof of the idea being possible to create you cannot secure a patent dispite what you may have heard. Being able to prove the idea is possible to create, you begin the execution phase; so to put it simply no.
What is a patent?
"Patents protect the features and processes that make things work. This lets inventors profit from their inventions."

Remember patents protect inventions; not the idea.
It is first come first serve, yes.

If Y!A is not reliable then Runelocus is FAR from reliable.
