View Full Version : Problems and Solutions - RuneLocus as a Whole

I know this is kind of long, but please read it all.
This forum has gone through hardships and we just recently have lost a lot of members so now it's down to certain newfags and certain oldfags mixed in with a ton of flamers/trollers. You can't fix everything, but what we need to do now first is work on the moderator team. A lot of the staff are perfect and needn't be changed for people like Smudge, Brendan, and Sick`. However, there are people that need to be fixed like the more inactive mods and the ones who don't do anything. I'm pretty sure you can guess who I'm talking about, cause it's kind of obvious but yeah. Another issue that needs to be fixed is the community members, 3/4's of them aren't even community members. Hell some of them, like Hippie408 have stopped going on RuneLocus at all. Lots of the CM's don't do anything except sit around and be smartasses. The rank does not need to be removed be redone, like requirements to be a CM. Maybe you have to be this active, and not do this, and you have to post this much blah blah blah. The third issue we need to address is the way that people new to forum are treated. There are people who are just out to troll the newfags and make them leave. Moderators don't do anything about this problem because once again, they don't really care and they have their priorities are straight. They worry to much about little things, but you know. These people though need to have stricter punishments, in fact everyone does. I mainly see infractions only and a sometimes it seems like they don't even get an infraction. I think there needs to be more bans. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of positive traits to the team I'm just pointing out the negatives for improvement. I'm also thinking we should remove and modify a bunch of boards even though that has already been done, it still needs further modification. We're a decent community still so we need more than small amounts of boards, but we definitely need less. A lot of times I find boards dead just cause no one has interest in them cause we're not a super varied community. Also I think we need a few sectional moderators for the RSPS board or a few more boards. If you haven't been able to tell yet this has been staff focused and that's because they are the back bone of the community. There needs to be like 3-5 globals, 3 jr's, and like 2 sectionals that monitor the entire RSPS board plus Joe in graphics and maybe just maybe someone in the suggestion/complaint forums.
That was a lot of issues I covered, so I won't add anymore. Thanks for reading.
Also, I feel if we get enough supporters like the entire community haha there will be tons of changes. So please, if you support me reply and thank this post.

Very well, thought out list.
I'm with you on everything there. There's about 3 Global mods that don't do anything, maybe they need to be demoted one step so that they will have to work to get back their Global position.
Then there's the CM's. I hardly see why any of them are CM's, it seems like maybe at a point in time they deserved to be, but they've kind of veered away from the reason that they were CM.
Iki and Toon, I really think that you should read over this topic, and do something to fix it.

@1) Staff activity, All staff are active 100% they just don't post alot or reply to topics they don't like. Example Brendan.
@2) You might see something soon about CM rank.
@3) I don't think Runelocus needs "new" mods as they are unexperienced and their is alot of changes coming along. (I don't mean I should be mod or anything but I was told that XD)
@4) Dead boards, I agree.

Community Members will be part of the agenda of a staff meeting that I will call shortly.
I would LOVE it if people didn't rage on newfags, however, I can't control what people put. We instate rules, but we don't want to become RuneCommunist.
We're going to sort this all out soon enough, just bear with us.

Although, the rest of what you said I agree with.

Thank you for finally letting us know that something is going to happen about all of this.
About the raging at 'newfags', I'd start giving out heavy infractions for it. There's no reason for it. Everyone here claims that they don't care about their post count, when it's pretty obvious that that's how they're classifying themselves.

I understand you guys are working hard at it, I just think some certain issues need to be brought to mind.
@Ishana: I know Brendan is active, I <3 him but it's others.
[EDIT]
Also what if some CM's that actually help get mod IF that would be the case?
Also I was more along the lines talking of rearranging the current staff list. Like demoting and stuff

Of course, it's just promotions were made too fast and so were demotions.
For example, personally I don't think Ishana shouldn't have Jr(No offense) but instead should've been a sectional.

Not the main reason I was demoted
Those "2" who made the complaints already got banned I guess ;)
As you said they bullying old people is a problem
That Chris I was wrong to infract him at one point but then he posted Scotticus IP and he threated to post it again, I had to delete his old infraction and give him 2 points instead so it becomes fair as he requested. I never wanted to do that but he was 2 stupid to complete with his complaint topic and I went on and checked the whole topic because he was the guy starting the flame war.
Kay, Sorry I been off topic if you have any more questions PM or talk on MSN :p

Ishana isn't a JR. Global Moderator anymore so I really don't understand what you're on about?
Pretty much all the current moderators have been moderator for a wicked long time by now, except for Faab. Pretty weird you're saying promotions were made too fast uh? You could've said that a year ago or so.
@ Ishana, becoming moderator has nothing to do with being a CM. It's not a requirement, the point is that the CM's were the people I really trusted in the past and had the highest chance of becoming moderator.
However nowadays, it doesn't matter at all.

I never said any of them did nothing, they all do at least some things. Maybe Friss and Felix and so on do lots and tons of things behind the scenes just not on the forum while Brendan may do mostly forum. I just wish we could know what they were doing behind the scenes or have an idea or just know they're doing something so us regular members who can't know anything about the staff team figures "Inactive, dempromote plox"

well, as from my understanding, if you're talking about lusfr_, he got promo'd to global because he did reports, so probably so, they're all doing reports as well.
either that or they might be busy for a few days (2~), I wouldn't think we would need more mods, so it doesn't really matter to me if there's inactive ones.

Also, I never stated we needed to add staff just modify. And I get to know what Lusfr and Rog3r and them do because at least I can figure out what they're doing for the forum. I don't mean to sound like a dick, but you've bitched about every round of staff that we've had for as long as I can remember. The fuck is this?!
The moderators now are some of the best, and definitely most experienced of any I can recall. They do their jobs, even if you don't know it. IE: Lusfr_, he moderates as good as he should, just doesn't post. Why is it your concern about knowing or not knowing if they do their jobs, anyway?
As for Community Members; once a community member, always a community member. Aside from Aff n'eway. He just goofed.

I agree, you cannot complain about the moderating staff right now they're doing an amazing job. Also you're complaining about them handing out tooi many infractions? Thats a good thing they give multiple warnings before banning and if you're banned it means you as sethy said "dun goofed - hard."

Also, don't bitch about staff until you experience first hand what it's like to moderate the idiots here. It's annoying, yet the current staff team still get it done properly. Let the staff leave for a day; see what happens. Hell, promoting a new staff team for a day? That'd be just as bad.

I'll get trolled for this, but some of you need to open your eyes. Infractions get handed out for a lot of stupid reasons. Since you're not the one receiving them, you don't realize it. I'm not saying that I'm the one receiving them either, but I am aware of them, and some of them are ridiculous.

Instead of pointing fingers at the community and saying that the moderation is part of the problem, you should instead think about what you can personally contribute to this community to make it a better place. That is what we are isn't it, a "Community" a group of people who some what get along. If anything its you, not figuratively you but everyone individually who is at fault for the decrease in the activity from smf years to now. I admit that maybe things aren't perfect, but atleast staff is working to do what they can on their part. The least that we could all do is contribute to the community and bring it back to where it belongs.

Then simply PM the Moderator that handed you the infraction and let them see your standpoint and see if it can be reversed, you have to understand to have a decent forum staff must be strict.

No, the infractions aren't for stupid reasons. The infractions are the mods doing their job. Sometimes they can be strict, sure. Though what's bad about doing your job? Show me some of your, as you say "ridiculous" infractions. I doubt it, but feel free to prove me wrong.
Many infractions are given out, I'm sure, to justify a much needed ban in order to make this community a better place. At least attempt to, anyway.

I agree with this, but there is only so much that we 'members' can do. Staff has a lot more control over this then we do. If every member that says 'retard' gets an infraction, people are going to start leaving because that's just an unnecessary infraction. I think that most of us are of the age to use the word 'retard' in a proper manner. Anyways, instead of getting back into that argument, I'm going to move on. I think that the community itself right now, excluding very few people, is pretty good.
Its not that bad, they're very lenient. A lot more so than you think also you'd be quick to give someone an infraction if you had to constantly read post after post of them trolling. Also an infraction is an infraction just a warning even if you think you're in the wrong just ignore it explain it to the moderator (Don't make a huge deal out of it) if it stands just try not to make the same mistake again, agree to disagree. Problem averted.

I am not saying it's not a hard job being moderator, I use to want it so bad but I don't anymore. I probably - I know even, that I would do a way worse job than any of the people on the staff team currently. But I know what Lusfr does and stuff because at least he tells people. If a moderator never posts or tells the community or updates the community or anything about what he is doing how am I to know he's active? That's the thing, I can't. I just have to assume he's inactive and try to get it to change as a regular member, you guys should stop being the equivalent to fanboys and understand where I am coming from.

If anything its you, not figuratively you but everyone individually who is at fault for the decrease in the activity from smf years to now. I admit that maybe things aren't perfect, but atleast staff is working to do what they can on their part. The least that we could all do is contribute to the community and bring it back to where it belongs.
I try to think about it, you can even ask Rog3r and people I've asked what I can do to help. I just simply don't have anything to offer really, and I do think that members should contribute more and that it's them that makes ti a true community. But if I mess up and have no way of telling what or how the moderators are doing, I'm going to assume they're inactive. The staff team is the most important thing to a community for they keep it inline and even help the community contribute more. Good staff team = Happy community. Happy community = contributions. Contributions = more for other members. More for other members = everyone is happy and active. Everyone is happy and active = amazign community. Also before anyone says "well it aint a happy and perfect world hurr" obviously it isn't and this community will never be perfect, but if we could just have updates and know what the staff is doing it'd be better. I even said though that I focused on staff in this feedback because they are the backbone to the community.

That's none of your concern. If they're doing their job, they're doing it. And they are. You don't have to know this.
If they're doing their job wonderful cause as you said they're doing it. And probably they are now that people have said this to me lots and lots now,
but ever since Iki said there were going to be a ton of changes I have seen very few probably because they're still being worked on or something but if some mods post nothing or give people updates then teh fuck, logic time here please I'm going to assume some mods are inactive. Simple as that.

Again, doesn't matter. They're doing their jobs, and that's that. Nobody really cares about what other people think as long as it's being done.

Wonderful thinking Sethy.
They can show no sign of activeness, but that's fine because it's a 100% chance they they're DOING A TON! /sarcasm
I don't care what people think, I just thought they were inactive so I said that. If they're not my bad, if they are okay then.

You're obviously missing my point. Of course they don't have to prove to people as long as their active. It's nobody's fucking business. If they're doing they're job, I see NO reason as to why everyone must be told.

Because people are going to assume they're inactive and complain, as I did.
It's simple really if you make everyone think you're inactive you're going to come off as inactive. It's quite obvious, or should be.

It should.
They're the community, and this is - or is supposed to be a RSPS community. They should at least show them when they complain they're active to reduce the amount of complaints.

Capital letters obvious show the expression I'm trying to have you comprehend. It's rather frustrating how you just DON'T UNDERSTAND what I'm saying. Nobody gives a shit if people think the staff's doing their job or not. When they AREN'T, and this community turns to pure chaos, THEN come and complain. Until then, just shut up.

They should give a shit they're doing a job and the mods should give a shit if people think they are, but I guess I'm just the only one who has enough logic to think "Well if they're inactive this is kind of bad"
Also, this community is kind of already in a bit of chaos. Not chaos chaos, but it's definitely not the most stable. I'll admit it's gotten better but yeah.

I really see absolutely NO point as to why people have to know, though. It's like JaGeX moderaters, and all that shit. They don't let you know they're getting the job done until it's done. It's like the government. It's like everything; it doesn't matter. If it's done, it's done. They're doing what they're supposed to. Just give me one GOOD reason people need to know they're active. First off,
Governments say what they're doing partially and at least update you on some things.
Second off,
JaGeX mods tell you what they're doing often, or you see them doing things often like banhammahing and shit.
Third off,
Because if you think they're inactive - inactive = Unimportant useless complaints
Think they're inactive + they really aren't doing anything = Problem with community staff and changes needs to be made, whether it's asking why they're inactive or whatever.

1: Says the one who believes so strongly in aliens. They telling you anything about aliens bro?
2: They do, but they do small things too. They don't tell you about every little thing.
3: Don't be a dipshit then. They're obviously not inactive now. Take some time and consider how the community is going now. It's doing good, with a very fine moderation team. Obviously meaning the complaint is void anyway. When you ACTUALLY notice that the community is falling apart, then do shit. Until then stop trying to get people demoted.

Frankly, we don't have to tell you shit. We do our jobs perfectly fine, and the team is currently stronger than usual. You do not need to know what we do, as it doesn't affect you. Don't break rules and you shouldn't even have to worry about our existence.
Seriously, you talk when you have absolutely no experience on the topic you're discussing. As a user on a private forum, you act as if you have rights to know what's going on at all times from all staff, which is completely erroneous. We don't have to tell you anything or explain anything we do if we don't want to, and we're generally lenient on infractions anyway. Typically, if you've received an infraction it's because you've done something that either really stands out or have broken the same rule multiple times.
Find something better to do than complain about problems that don't exist.

I don't think I have to know every single fucking thing, I just think it'd be fucking nice if some mods that come off as doing nothing would post once in a while to let us know they're doing something. I'm not a mod, I have no experience as a mod on a forums as big as this, and I don't want to be. And perhaps you should have read, I said you guys were too loose with the infractions and when you did give infractions it was to silly things.

I think the we would notice if one of us was inactive, considering we have an active board and handle massive amounts of infractions daily. It would be pretty damn obvious to a close group like us who's not pulling their weight, and we'd do something about it. It's none of your concern and has no affect on you. Again, we don't have to let you know if we're active or not, and if we do our jobs, it doesn't fucking matter how often we post or how nice we are. We should do our jobs and do it well, and we do. Who are you to try and claim that you know how we could improve? Every single staff member has more experience and has been here just as long or longer than you have.
