Before you rage at me seriously think this through, I've been wanting to debate this for a long time, well here we go.
So why do I say everyone is selfish you may ask? Well the reason everything you or someone else does they have to tell somebody about it or make it known. Really think about that, have you ever done something nice for someone and made anonymous? I think not. Some people will try and say something stupid like "What about Mother Teresa!" that's simple, you know about her right? You also know about the stuff she has done. So what I'm saying is nobody does anything for other people without it gaining them a better reputation in some way.

I help people all the time without making it known...
If it is known, it's often someone else publicizing it.

People help others up to a maximum level. In the end, they'll do what's best for themselves.

I help people because I want to help people. I don't give a damn what other people think about it.
Yes, we are all selfish. However, your example is terrible. Your example isn't even about being selfish, it's about wanting fame. Additionally, not all people do so.
It's in our (human) nature to be selfish (want things for ourselves and be able to neglect others' needs).

It's not true that everyone is like this, though.
There're plenty of people that don't give damn about themselves and devote their lives entirely to helping others.

I agree with this 100%. It is just in our nature to want to be recognized, to have 'power'. I admit I have helped people and then want to get recognized for it afterwards.

Yes! So true Unsung Heroes!

Lets say your stuck in a situation...
2 people are hanging on a cliff, your mom and your dad.
You decide who lives. Just you.
There's no tricks, no way to save both, you can choose 1.
Your being self-fish if you choose either.
Life is Selfish and people need to deal with it.
Stop saying that you did something not for yourself.
It ALWAYS effects you in a good/bad way, everything you do.
So yes, everyone is selfish.

I don't see myself as selfish. I'm a forgiving person, I give to charity whenever I can - If I see a homeless guy or the usual guy singing in the street with the guitar and hat on the floor, I'll throw them a few quid. As for other people you meet its rare to find someone who is willing to give without reward.
For example on the bus the other day, jam packed as usual at 9.00am - Some woman gets on with a pram and child. Some School kids are just sat there, (in the area designated for prams) not moving at all, The woman had to literally stand in a cramped corner and also manoeuvre the pram to at least leave some space in the walk way. If that was me I would of happy stood up and stayed stood up until I got where I was going. However there is always people who will also give without reward. I've seen people in super market pop a 20 quid note into a charity box - I mean, how many people would put £20 into a charity box.

I hate when people do that, this old lady almost fell on her face with tons of bags in her hands and these 16 year old guys were laughing at her. I was with my 1 buddy so we went over and said "you think its funny that she almost feel, that coulda ended her life." Why don't you stand and let this nice lady sit down. They didn't get up and I didn't want to start a fight so I helped her to my old seat. Soon as those guys got off the bus we got off right after and made sure that they get up for elderly people from now on.. I do help alot without wanting a reward or something in return. Respect the golden rule.

I took a trip recently, and I saw 50R$ in a charity box for children, If I'm not mistaken I think I saw 100 Dollar Bills, which is almost 200Reals.

i've learned something about homeless people.
I used to give tons of money to this one guy... about 20 dollars every week or two...
I'd always wonder what does he do with all that money? I'd probably given him more than 200 dollars...
One day i stood by after i gave him the 20, he went right into a Liquor store and got him some liquor.
He's homeless for god sake.
After that, I give charity money in those boxes at Kroger or something, or To the street performers no matter how much they suck, their trying.
