View Full Version : Is making a server worth it?

Do people actually donate?
I'm not looking to make a major profit, just to break even/minor loses. I am thinking of making a server (will make it perfect, in my opinion, before launching) and would host it on a VPS, so it would be 24/7 and have it with a website and domain, to build a community.

Would this be worth my time or just a waste of like $25-30?

So far I've been on a few servers (Months back) and no donations was made, this is including my server.

But who knows. It may vary.

I think it would be a good idea if you didn't half ass the stuff. If you put effort into something you will get rewarded.

All my opinion: The reason many servers fail is due to lack of updates and many owners of servers don't want to put their own money into the server right away. If you put some cash into it the first couple of months you will start making money. Many server owners have high expectations for donations the first month. Nobody wants to donate to a server that is new and was just released. I was Co-Owner of a server and we managed to make some good cash the first month but we were unable to do anything after. If you do create a server be sure to let me know i'd like to try it out; good luck!

Alright. I guess I'll get started on it. I just don't want to spend hours on it and then money for it to only last a month. :L

I was a co-owner of server once. We did very well. but the main thing is to advertise. we bought promo vids on yt from like jiglojay;cole 007 pot ect made about 600$ profit. ofc none of it went to me:'[ that's alrite tho. but if you really want players and stuff; I highly recommend you advertise.

Might help you. Let me learn more about the server of MineCraft before I commit to anything. I want to go beyond just mod installation. I want to make my own mods/add in shit like trading/economy.

Really? I think MineCraft is better than RS. Plus, it's still very young, compared to other online games, which leaves a lot of room for improvement.

I already have an account, i don't need 2.
Also, it's being able to create/destroy is fun. Being in control of the game environment makes it outstanding.
