View Full Version : Runelocus Wiki = Dead?

Ishana

The Wiki got attention a couple of days maybe weeks, but then died!
I wish I could add articles but I am not experienced enough to add anything really..

@Members
Give me a reason why you are not adding or editing articles?

@Iki
Wiki needs attention, and you must always bug those people to edit/add stuff :s
Give contributor rank to the guy or girl who writes the best article and you will have at least 20 more article

Pretty much what mumups said. Not many people come on here any more, and if they do, why the hell would they write runescape articles in a wiki, just a load of crap.

Sini - Because I am banned and no one really needed anything to be written/no reward was to be given to those who tried.

Requested me to post it on his behalf.

Adding or editing? 1. There are no posts to edit. 2. Well I'm not sure if I'm the only one but, I have NO IDEA what to post articles on.

Wiki editing is odd, and it's confusing lol. I was posting some good stuff but it's not BBC. lol.

Maybe something to do with the purpose of the website, like explaining what a RSPS is, or the development of it?

If you're so sure the complete site dies, why don't you just leave already instead of spreading such bullshit? (no reply to you ishana ;))

About the wiki, yeah it definitely did and it's not really a big deal. I'd actually say it didn't die, but it was always dead.
The point is that we don't really have a lot of members who're able to write good articles, yet many people are afraid of competition (due to their own server) and will not share any of their knowledge until their own server stops some day.

Keep in mind that RuneLocus is a website mainly made for the newcomers to private servers and for those advertising/looking for a server.
If we add something new, we need something that attracts both sides (server owners and players). A wiki is only interesting for the advanced private server developers, but only when other advanced developers help on the wiki (which doesn't fit the "newcomers to private servers"-part), understand? :P

edit:
ps. another REALLY important thing we need is a new, simple but good "How to make a server" tutorial like we had in the past.

Didn't we have this on the runelocus main page before the big crash?
You could just bring it back?

You could just bring it back?Yeah we had, and it was damn popular. We need to bring it back, but not a backup of the "old" tutorial.
We need something new and fresh, something up-to-date ;)

about the Wiki, Why did you agree to the suggestion if you know wiki = Advanced RSPS people which TBH we don't have ATM :(

Everybody wanted it, so we did what the community wanted and put it up. If we didnt do it, just imagine all the negative comments we would have received for not putting it up.

That's not really the kind of tutorial we had. We had a really clear screenshot-sort-of-tutorial that teached people through the progress of no-ip, downloading a source and portforwarding.
Giving newcomers a bunch of commands wont work ;)

The reason why I agreed on the suggestion is because everybody here pushed me. If I didn't do so, imagine all the negative comments (remember all the fighting because it took me some time to get it online?). Yet, it's always worth a try, no?

D Escobar

i agree that it was a good idea putting it put but now so many people are inactive and lazy that it really wasn't worth your effort to put it up but if we can get more active advanced coders it would be a great success....

Runelocus is missing a lot of suggestions + suggestions that got added and died

Source library (I think it's dead/deleted)
Awards system (Denied)
Emily's suggestion's (Ignored maybe forgotten)
My suggestion - Fav server (Iki said yes but he forgot)
My suggestion - Advanced source library (Forgotten)
Only the registered members can see the link.

Ikiliki
October 2nd, 2011, 19:04
The award system was re-suggested and we have a thread about that open in the mod board. We just don't know about the icons and kind of awards yet.
Source library has been deleted because Jagex seemed to dislike the list and contact all those download websites to get the files removed all the time, explains the advanced source library suggestion too.

Favorite server, yeah I definitely forgot about that one osht.

I remember the source library, it was good what ever happened to it. The WIKI needs to get a better layout of navigation if that is possible. I hate that to see all the different kind of pages you have to get to special pages and click all pages. The only way people can know about the Wiki is if that they go to the news board and see the news.

1. Wouldnt work like you said.
2. Thats what pastebin.com is for?
3. Would require a lot of customization. Why not just use github or something?

Ishana
October 2nd, 2011, 19:34
I just re-read this and..

Giving newcomers a bunch of commands wont work

Newcomers (Not all of them) copy and paste then learn later on, just saying because I do that with new things I can't figure out..

@Anthony
Github was suggested by someone already, but I think the topic died..

They said "We don't want people begging for them"That's why we denied it before. But ya, it's worth a shot, just need some good ideas on what kind of awards ;)
These simple kind of "java programmer" things wont work since the majority considers themselves as programmer, we need some good requirements etc.

In my opinion, Awards > Ranks.
Contributor, Ex-staff ranks could be awards instead.

Claim website is dying without see webstats.
Claim forums are dead when only visiting certain parts.
Request feature, do not use feature.
Complain nothing ever happens but when it does, its wrong.

Since my post was deleted, I will gladly restate my statement once again. Until you can build a better, more mature community, anything extracurricular coming from this place just simple wouldn't survive. Even if it did (which it wouldn't), in the end it would get domestically abused just like how this community turned out to be.

It's more the way you're saying so. To me and many others, you seem like someone who's just hoping things will actually die and want to make more people talk negatively about the site (like you're doing).
Why's that so bad? Well, pretty simple. More hating towards the site, more complaining about the site, yet less suggestions making things better besides the simple "make things better"-kind of suggestions

Wait? So everyone moans about the lack of a Wiki...

We introduce a Wiki and then everyone moans that it's not active enough...

Also, anyone saying they want a more mature community then that's something only you can do. We can't restrict who comes in and who goes out.

If you are mature, you can set an example for the rest.

Some people believe banning immature people is the perfect solution to make a website more active though.

All the "mature folk" are complete "I am better than you because of my post count and because people know me" fags so it makes them un-mature.

Actually true that, there is nothing that links to the wiki except for the link in the announcement page

That's because the somewhat more intelligent people are visitors of the forum and are aware of the wiki and are the ones who're supposed to add the content. If I add a link to an empty wiki to the homepage/toplist/etc/, you shouldn't expect much difference other than some ads.

Point directly where I try to influence people to talk negatively upon the site. It's sad how horribly this community is moderated that if you were to ban every troll on this site it would quickly die. All of the people who actually contributed to the wiki, had intuitive & creative minds, and outstanding tutorial authors quickly got replaced by egoistic bastards and arrogant pricks. Hell it's not like anyone is actually going to contribute an actual 'good suggestion' anyhow, and even if I did, it would go towards my site for the and definately not RuneLocus.
