I bought the game, but haven't gotten to officially start it yet. I've been reading some guides and reviews and I've decided that I'm going to begin playing it tomorrow. According to my friends, its a game that'll never die. I'm excited to actually begin playing, but need some help from you pros that've already experienced its beauty.

So, let's begin. I'll most likely need to know / want more information on the following topics:

What is the best race to choose? I don't prefer combat over magic, nor vice versa. I prefer magic, but I've heard the elves are weak. Please don't tell me to choose a class that you haven't personally tried.
What's the best road to take from the beginning? I understand there is a "main" story line, but honestly, should I stick to the story line or go explore caves, dungeons, etc?
What's the best way to earn money that is needed for the required / over-required weapons/armour that I'll need?
Upon leveling up, do I place my experience in Magicka, Health or Stamina?
Where do I place my skill points? (What you get for leveling)
What's the quickest way to become rich, and get tons of experience while doing so?
Can you (and if so where do you) obtain these "shouts" before you slay your first dragon and meet the Greybeards?
Imagine you were starting a new character, what race, route etc would you take them and why?

It's not cheating if I still have to work for it, I just don't want to have to remove my save games 100 times to get the right character.

I am a Wood Elf and personally, I only regret it due to the useless ability (Commanding Animals, I have yet to find a use. I need to try it on Mammoths though). Great for Archery and I use Magic

What's the best road to take from the beginning? I understand there is a "main" story line, but honestly, should I stick to the story line or go explore caves, dungeons, etc?

Start with the main story, to unlock more shouts/get a feel, then go and explore

What's the best way to earn money that is needed for the required / over-required weapons/armour that I'll need?

Dungeons, stealing shit

Upon leveling up, do I place my experience in Magicka, Health or Stamina?

I use Magic/Health. Stamina is good to increase your carrying rate.

Where do I place my skill points? (What you get for leveling)

For Perks in skills (Like I get 60% more bow damage, ect)

What's the quickest way to become rich, and get tons of experience while doing so?

Dungeons are always good.

Can you (and if so where do you) obtain these "shouts" before you slay your first dragon and meet the Greybeards?

You need to slay a dragon for shouts.

Imagine you were starting a new character, what race, route etc would you take them and why?

Same I took.

Not a problem :P. Melee is easier to find shit for (I find a lot more powerful weapons than bows) and cheaper, but Archery is better for sneaking around, which I find more fun.

What about a dark elf? I've heard they control fire and have a natural resistance there of. They are the strongest mages of that particular element and I heard they can do some crazy ass things.

I have a dark elf character and I love him. But if you want shouts do the main quest or something because we got a lot from it.

EDIT: Elf*

Dark Elf is good. I have a friend IRL who uses it. Just don't be a Nord, they suck.

So it's the strongest mage user?

So it's the strongest mage user?

Well from what i can say is that i currently have a level 9 mage, played it for a couple of hours so far, didn't really like the character tho.
Started an orc mage yesterday, was supposed to become a melee-user but i went mage.

It really doesn't matter what kind of race you choose, i like orc mage more than the dark elf mage because it's not that stereo typical.

I'm a nord. They're great 2handers. I basically one hit everyone. And I use magic on it easily, I just dual-flame the monsters and done.

You wanna go with a High Elf, they make great pure mages. Magic in Skyrim, magic helps a lot. Frost dragons are vulnerable to fire spells, fire dragons to frost, etc. Pure mages kill most of the NPCs with dual spells. I haven't tried this, but they are technically the best mage class along with Bretons.

What's the best road to take from the beginning? I understand there is a "main" story line, but honestly, should I stick to the story line or go explore caves, dungeons, etc?

Go to Riverwood, talk to everyone there. Many will give you quests, simply follow em'. I don't recommend doing the main story first.

What's the best way to earn money that is needed for the required / over-required weapons/armour that I'll need?

Dungeons, it gives you a shitload of XP depending on which one you go to. If you want money, quests are better. But rare items are on harder quests and dungeons only.

Upon leveling up, do I place my experience in Magicka, Health or Stamina?

Since you're a mage, focus on Magicka, but balance it with Health. Stamina is really useless, especially for a mage.

Where do I place my skill points? (What you get for leveling)

You wanna focus on Conjuration, Destruction, Restoration, Illusion, Alteration and one handed items if you feel like using a sword with your spells.

What's the quickest way to become rich, and get tons of experience while doing so?

While getting experience, dungeons, they get me more than 1 level p/ dungeon depending on it's size.

Can you (and if so where do you) obtain these "shouts" before you slay your first dragon and meet the Greybeards?]

I think so, being that all you need to do is kill the dragon that gives you its shout and then go to a specific stone.

Imagine you were starting a new character, what race, route etc would you take them and why?

Refer to what I said above.

Done.

I'm the tiger likely race.
I love it.

There's nothing else to say to be honest, just progress with the storylines and don't try to kill giants or mammoths on an early stage..

Khajiit?

Progressing with the storyline is terrible, it'll be harder to kill some monsters and you'll like to get more experience before actually finishing the main story.

True that, giants one hit me and send me up into the air, even though they're supposed to be friendly.

Have you not played any other fantasy game besides RuneScape (and Skyrim)? All of them have similar aspects, just like FPS do, RTS do, ect.
It's not anything like RuneScape, besides the fantasy genre. RuneScape is turn based combat with point and click, while Skyrim is real time, first-person that doesn't *quite* require mindless grinding, there is grinding in any game with levels, but as of yet, it's not really mindless (spending hours killing the same creatures, in the same spot, with the same loot)

Fantasy and RPG, even though RuneScape is very limited.

Its the level up from firebolt, it one hits just about everything but it takes a shit load of magic points. Well, that's if you don't have the perks/right armor.

My Magicka recharges 50% faster and destruction uses 50% less Magicka, problem Bethesda?
