View Full Version : From Ikiliki: Tool Ideas!

Ninin

So here was my PM:

Make new tools. You have the capability in PHP to make some pretty neat things. I'm not sure as to WHAT tools, but if you ask the community, I'm sure they'll give you some neat ideas. Originality is key.

His reply:

That's the most important one. I can make tools, but have been asking for years on ideas and haven't ever gotten any.

So I'm asking you, as the community, to open your minds and think of new tools that Ikiliki and the moderation team can design to better your RSPS experience. Even if you're unsure about an idea. POST IT!

Let's get Runelocus back on its feet.

Ikiliki, as a quick note, the tools button the website doesn't even work, so that may be a small complication.

Ikiliki

I've actually gotten a few, but people tend to forget that RuneLocus is a website that's mostly (not completely, but mostly) focusing on the newcomers to this private server scene. Package managers, obfuscators nor a SVN tool aren't what we need.

Auto Runescape Private Server Maker & Hoster
Oh, that's something else I've seen a lot of times. Plain stupid.

Ikiliki, as a quick note, the tools button the website doesn't even work, so that may be a small complication.
Fine for me and the others as far as I know?

Lines of code generators for differant revisions, npc spawners etc.

What about a simple port checker? You open it on your computer, type the port that needs to be checked, and it tells you whether its open or restricted?

Be neat to mount a cache online and be able to read the contents and edit it ;)
Without hosting the files, of course.AgHHHPhfw[eiouIOWEgh]r

A server download database, like the toplist but different no voting ofcourse but rated stars. people post there downloads there and options to reply on it. if needed, but I think that would be good. Also on the script a file uploader with a virus scan maybe? making sure the files are legit but if passed it will be moderated by your moderators ofcourse and reports will come in. Update the Item database, a coordinate tool when typed in the city ect it will come up easily added by searching google for coords and adding them to a database. Or maybe as the downlods make it instead of using the forum, use a script that will be there and voted. non replys to reduce trolls ect. but i dont know good luck!

That tool that no one have though about, it will take time but it's a unique idea and I am giving it to you now...
Make a tool that when you enter ID for an item or NPC you get it's gfx and animation id ;)

For example
Enter whip id and you get the attack and def emote.
Enter KBD id and you get the attack, def, fire breathing emote.

What do you mean by "You open it on your computer"?
Downloadable tool?

Not basic, effective. You could improve it by having it automatically change the settings to check the ports, and if any of the required ports are closed, they're automatically opened?

Iki, whenever I hit tools, it redirected me to the index.html page. -_-

In all sense, yes. Have the tool have Runelocus watermarks all over it though.

Its an encrypted message string, must translate to English.

Or we can make a complete dictionary or Java application for viewing animations/models from files on the clients computer?

That would be fuckin' sick.

We had the library, but Jagex simply copied all the links into one e-mail to the download providers and in a matter of minutes all downloads on the complete library were removed.
I don't want anything hosted on this site since that's what makes us go not-legal, yet I don't feel like having the "OMG LEECHED SOURCE" bitching to me personally.

Also people, another thing we want is forum activity right? Removing forum boards and making external pages for those aren't going to make the forum more active as far as I know.

Ninjblood, altough that needs to be fixed, you can just go on it and it hovers giving you options for different tools.

Please explain how downloadable tools are going to make the activity better? It's downloading an application and never coming back unless you need to re-download it.
Also, I barely have any experience with languages like C# so that ain't gonna work for me resulting into us relying on others. Java ain't gonna do the job since beginners have massive issues running a bat or jar file.

Oh, the idea is to hover over it. The website isn't really phone friendly.

I agree, need somebody to obtain those lists for me since I'm unable to do so. SiniSoul was going to do so, but then all the bitching about Emily started and he decided not to.

A lot of members of the community might have C# skills, and are willing to help the community by creating some programs.

Why don't you have some basic Java lessons online with a quiz at the end. Simple stuff, like things on operators or even commonly asked questions on the forums. Just something to explain it, then a quiz at the end so people can see their progress.

If need be, you could expand it to more complicated things later on.

I don't really think a quiz is the most attractive haha

It would be nicer if it would redirect you to a page showing all tools available when you click it:P

We can relate it to servers though. For example if we talked about the operators, just relate to how it can be used in a server. If you make the examples are relevant to them, they'll be more interested in learning about it. Besides its a way for them to get the answers to their commonly asked questions. The quiz is just an effective way to see if you've learnt what you should have from the lesson, you could have an option to ignore it.

I love Slik idea, and how you can make it private server based

example for one of the questions
"If you want to have either one of two items, which one of those you input instead of the dots
if (itemId == 1 .... itemId == 2)"

"||"
"or"
"&"

An FAQ section for common RSPS troubleshooting? It seems no one has the ability to use the search function anyway... Updated lists, past RS cache hosting (dunno if you could get away with that), coordinate tool (like previously suggested), and thats about it from the top of my head.

I have the capability of making carbon copies of the height maps for every region in the cache, until I finish my map editor. Does it support Dungeons/Locations not indexed on the Runescape map?Right now it's just an image, nothing to do with the cache. I have the base to another map viewer that just uses their world map system pretty much.

Just a content library then?
With interface id lists, GFX id lists, animation id lists, ...
But proper lists, rather than those half-assed, out-dated lists in those winterlove sources.
