I cant believe i dont see this - categories!!!!

im sure theres alot of people that find the server of their dreams, but one sad day, something happens, and its gone. what do we do? we look for a different server. one that has similar qualities to the one that we enjoyed so much over the others.

This feature would bring runelocus - and of course - our private server experiences to the next level.

You see, when go to the top list or even the server status page, what do we get?
A list.
In order to find out if the server is what we want, we click inside to see what the server has, and if it doesnt specify enough, we download the server only to see that it wasnt what you were looking for, and you realize that you just wasted a bunch of time and possibly some space on your computer.

All this website needs is a category list, or something like that. I've visioned this to be either of these two ways.

1. a straight up category list.
the two examples ill use for this are just two off the top of my head - XISTH and NEAR REALITY.
you see, these two servers are very different, however we find them in the same list, which really bugs me. Me personally, i look for a server like XISTH, it gets right into the action and youre pking within 2 minutes tops. NEAR REALITY, however, you have to spend a decent amount of time getting what youre looking for, and thats fine, its just not for me and im sure its the same way for others too. same thing with XISTH, im sure people look down on it and believe you should work for hours before youre having fun.

the differences can be settled with all servers with a categories tab. heres what it would look like

CATEGORIES
RIGHT INTO THE ACTION (for lazy kids that just wanna start pking and prove without hesitation that they are the dominate killers)
TIME CONSUMING (recommended for people that believe in the word "earn")
SKILLING (self explanatory)

anyways you get the idea. i dont care what you name the categories or subtitle them. i just want something like this done and how could i be the only one??

heres an example
XISTH PK deob-317 difficulty ranking- 1 pk rating- 6.5 skillng rating- 7
NEAR REALITY deob- 317 difficulty ranking- 8.5 pk rating- 9 skilling rating- 9

difficulty rating- the combination of how easy it is to obtain items and level up (it would be even better to have them in a seperate column) 1 being easiest and 10 being hardest
pk rating- how well is pking coded 10 is best. for example i gave xisth a 6.5 out of 10 because the melee and range timers and food timers are great, but you can combo mage and melee together like the old old p server days and speccing is a pain in the ass ect ect
skilling ranking- obviously how fun it is for skillers

this by no means is exactly how i want it to be. im just saying that i want something LIKE this done and im simply throwing out suggestions. if you support something LIKE this then FANTASTIC. if not then please give feedback on why the hell you wouldnt want something like this done.

i feel that this is a great suggestion so i feel it is necessary to make a support list and to be fair ill also make a not support list.

you dont click on the server to see what category it is. THATS THE POINT OF THE SUGGESTION. every server in a certain category would be kept together. so for example all the skilling servers in one list, and all the lazy and easy servers in a different list. examples may vary,

Most people don't give a rat's ass about what they play. Besides, the pictures and info generally does tell you this (i.e. exp rates, spawn server, economy. These are key words).

all im saying is keep top list and server status, but just add a new tab. and you can make like 5 categories that servers can fall into, and they will be voted on within that category.

The majority of the people just play the "top list" since they are considered the "better" servers. I don't really see the point of "categories" since most servers already provide the information like Aff said. Its a decent idea/suggestion, but I'm not in favor with it. Sorry.

People at runelocus always seem to disagree with every suggestion. But i agree, i did this in my top list. I made it that there 3 category, you could click "All, pk server, skilling, something here forget wot"

And it worked fine. People click what category their server is when they submit their entry.

That's what I mean, it has to be in categories so who's going to say which server belongs in which category?
Someone will have to check every server to actually see if it belongs in that category.

thats the easy part. either the owners lazy ass can decide that or you can simply put a small voting box where people can also decide where the server belongs.

Your suggestion would create alot of extra work for nothing. If a server wants to be separate by category they can put that information in the name/title of there server. No mod/admin is going to spend 5 hours to separate each server, and giving the owner control would allow them to choose where they want there server to be, even not following the rules. It's just going to be an abused/waste of time update, so i dont think it will happen.

Emily is right.

It'd be easier if Ikiliki and the rest of the staff team installed tags that allowed you to display whether it was skilling, spawning, etc. Otherwise, it's not even necessary. The majority of RSPS will provide information like that in their description; if you're too lazy to find it, ctrl+f is your bestfriend. If you're still too lazy to find it, then it's your own fault.

Please learn to read my post. I did not call the staff lazy at all, I just said it would be a waste of there time. Just because YOU think its a great idea, does not mean that the whole community thinks this. Honestly my posts isnt trolling, its my open opinion on the debate. Also if you are going to troll at me for having a valid point, then at least properly spell SEPARATE*

Also, letting the players decide still allows the ability to abuse, this is not a good idea..

Pk servers tend to get a higher hit rate then skilling servers, so yes, abusing the system you want, could be beneficial to the owner. I agree, that there should be 'maybe' a system to sort servers based on there content, such as Titles/Text inside thread. Although I don't agree with sorting similar servers, while having the "guide" servers such as Crisis-X, and what ever servers you stated earlier.

like i said, again, my idea is to have a system that will make it EASIER than it already is to find the type of server im looking for. i am in no way saying that the things i am suggesting are the things that i want done, im only throwing ideas out that could possibly used, but im SURE a better system could easily be worked out

This could be abused in many ways

1 - Server owners should have the ability to change at any time
which leads that bad servers will be on top.. for example @ skilling there will be only 100 servers for example and max will have 500 votes
then a server with 1k+ vote and does not even relate to skilling at all will change there just to be on top

2 - According to another post of yours when you said let players decide.
Well.. players are not really going to decide it's the competitive servers that is gonna do that :(

3 - as i said for #1 but this time it's going to be for the poor mods who is gonna get millions of reports for #1

im just asking for the hundreds of servers to have another way of being organized, instead of just a list from most popular to least popular or most online to least online. there has to be some way that we can think of to make the type of server that we want to be easier to find than it already is.
