About buying a RS Memb Pin

When using a middleman..
lets say im buying a pin from som1.
And the dude gives the pin to the MM and i send cash to dude..or vice versa.
How would the MM know if the pin is right and not invented?

I think you also must give the money to the MM and then you try the Pin out, if it works, the MM sends the money to him, if not, back to you.

2. The seller gives pin to you.
3. MM teamviews you entering the pin for membership
4. If it works, the MM gives money/rsgp to seller. If not, the MM gives money/rsgp back to buyer.
