Currently if you are banned you are unable to view the threads. I suggest that we should add a mute system so you are able to view threads but unable to post on them, this would be a milder deterrant of breaching the rules. Further breaching of the rules would result in the current bans which don't allow you to view threads or post. This way people who are posting utter garbage will be able to view the threads but learn their lesson but not being able to post, cool down and take a step back to view why they are being punished which is what often happens.

I actually kind of like this. Instead of the 7 day ban after hitting 5 infractions a 7 day mute does make a bit more sense in certain situations.

Please do it. It can clearly stop the excessive spammers. A ban isn't really needed after 5 infractions.

Hopefully when people get unmuted, they'll have learned their lesson and won't have quit (because they can still lurk), and will become (half) decent members.

Yeah, it true that a lot of people don't want to come back after they are banned but if they are muted, there is a much greater chance of them learning their lessons.

If only we had dots like on SMF :<

I'd love to be able to mute people. Right now, I'd have to make a special usergroup and manually manage them. This is why we don't mute.

why is muting needed, just ban- if they wish to see the forums they log out of thier account- NOT MAKING ANOTHER ACCOUNT OFC.

I am pretty sure you have to log in to view some material.

Or have someone dedicated to managing those people. It doesn't have to be you.

Its a stupid idea I thought when people get banned on here they couldn't log on so they just look at the threads as a guest.

Yes this was mentioned by Brayden, if you read the posts you would have known that, I said that you can't view all the material if you are not logged into an account.
